Plan the visitSeattle, Sea-Tac and the ferry: choose your route
From downtown Seattle, take the Seattle–Bainbridge ferry, then SR 305, SR 3, SR 104 and US 101 toward Port Angeles. The all-road alternative goes south through Tacoma, then north on SR 16 and SR 3 to SR 104 and US 101. Both routes cross the Hood Canal Bridge; the all-road option avoids a ferry queue.
The NPS planning reference allows about three hours from Seattle via ferry, or about three hours and 130 miles from Sea-Tac via Tacoma. These are starting points for planning: allow extra time for traffic, ferry lines and your chosen sailing. Check Washington State Ferries sailings before deciding whether a ferry fits your arrival.
Without a car, Clallam Transit’s Strait Shot route 123 connects Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal with Port Angeles Gateway Transit Center via Sequim. Match its scheduled departures to your ferry arrival. A downtown overnight keeps the next morning simpler.
01 · Getting hereFerry from Seattle or drive via Tacoma?
From central Seattle, the Bainbridge ferry adds a Puget Sound crossing to the journey. From Sea-Tac or south of the city, the Tacoma route keeps the trip on the road. Both approaches meet at the Hood Canal Bridge before continuing toward Port Angeles.
Include the ferry queue and chosen sailing in a downtown Seattle start. For a flight arrival, add baggage collection and the rental-car pickup before the drive.
02 · Getting hereAfter a flight, spend the first evening in town
Make Port Angeles your arrival-day destination after a flight. Settle into the hotel, walk the waterfront and pick up food for the next morning. You will start the mountains or lake with a full day ahead.
For a late landing, sleep near Sea-Tac and drive to the peninsula the following day. That gives the transfer its own place in the trip.
03 · Getting hereConnect the ferry with Strait Shot 123
For a car-free arrival, pair the Seattle–Bainbridge ferry with Clallam Transit’s Strait Shot toward Port Angeles. Line up the route 123 timetable with your sailing in both directions.
Stay near downtown’s transit center for a short luggage transfer. From there, local guided tours reach park destinations while your evenings stay within walking distance of restaurants.
04 · Getting hereReserve a room that fits the first morning
For a guided park day, book a downtown room close to the tour’s meeting point. For self-driving, choose the hotel’s parking and location around the first region on your route. Our hotel selection includes both waterfront stays and practical driving bases.
Reserve the arrival night and tour dates together. A night in Port Angeles before the first outing gives you a straightforward morning start.
